US Mom Files Lawsuit: Latonya Eason claimed in her lawsuit that her son is still dealing with the incident’s “embarrassment, harassment, PTSD, shock, and other physical, emotional, and traumatising injuries.”
According to the New York Post, the mother of a 10-year-old kid who was detained for urinating in public has filed a lawsuit against the City of Senatobia in Mississippi, requesting $2 million in damages. In August of last year, a police officer discovered Quantavious Eason urinating in a parking lot behind the door of his mother’s vehicle, leading to his arrest. According to the Post report, the third-grade student was detained in a prison cell for “45 minutes to one hour” instead of being handcuffed.
For the “physical and psychological injuries” she and her son suffered from the incident, the boy’s mother is suing the city, police chief Richard Chandler, retired officer Zachary Jenkins, and four other police officers for $2 million in compensatory damages.
Latonya Eason claimed in her lawsuit that her son is still dealing with the incident’s “embarrassment, harassment, PTSD, shock, and other physical, emotional, and traumatising injuries.”
When he eventually spots police officers, he just begins to shake. He’s scared,” Ms. Eason said to Action News 5, the local news station.
The boy’s detention was “an error in judgement”, according to the police chief, who also said that it “violated” their policy, as he informed the news channel.
According to CNN, the 10-year-old was given a two-page book report on the late NBA player Kobe Bryant and sentenced to three months of probation following his detention.
However, his attorneys filed a motion in court requesting that the case be dropped “due to the arresting officer’s termination for making an improper arrest on the minor.”
Additionally, they contended in court that Eason was ten years old, had no criminal history, and had the “mental culpability” of a child of that age.
After hearing the arguments, the judge dismissed the case.
Ten days or so later, the boy’s arresting police officer was fired.
