Delhi Excise Policy Case: Arvind Kejriwal will be housed in Tihar’s Jail No. 2, with opposition leaders K Kavitha of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Manish Sisodia, who was Kejriwal’s previous deputy.
New Delhi: In case of a sudden drop in blood sugar, Arvind Kejriwal will have bottled water, home-cooked meals, and a supply of toffees, a Delhi court announced on Monday. The Chief Minister is currently serving a 14-day sentence in the city’s Tihar Jail after being arrested last month in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam.
During his incarceration, he will also be permitted to see his spouse, Sunita Kejriwal, and be permitted to use pillows and a comforter from home. As he suffers from diabetes and a weakened immune system, he will also be given medical devices to track his health.
The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party will be housed in Tihar’s Jail No. 2, among opposition leaders K Kavitha of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Manish Sisodia, who was once his deputy.
Following the conclusion of the Enforcement Directorate’s extended custody, Mr. Kejriwal was transported to jail this afternoon. The Delhi Chief Minister was named by the ED as the “kingpin” of the purported scam. The ED also informed the court that the AAP leader had provided “evasive replies” and withheld material that was pertinent to the probe.
What Has Court Allowed Arvind Kejriwal In Jail
Additionally, copies of the Ramayan and the Bhagvad Gita, as well as the book How Prime Ministers Decide by journalist Neerja Chowdhury, have been requested to be given to Mr. Kejriwal by the prison administration.
During his incarceration, Mr. Kejriwal is also permitted to see his wife, Sunita Kejriwal.
In response to the ED’s accusations, which have rocked the opposition party weeks before the Lok Sabha election, Mrs. Kejriwal has emerged as a go-between for voters and the AAP.
Following her address this past weekend at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, where she took the platform alongside notable figures like former Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, she has also become a formidable public speaker.
Since that Mr. Kejriwal is still the Chief Minister of Delhi, it is unclear if he will be permitted to attend more meetings with ministers and government representatives. This is prohibited by current prison regulations, which might lead to a potentially catastrophic conflict between the AAP and the federal government.
The AAP has firmly stated that Mr. Kejriwal will not stand down, pointing out that he has just been charged and not convicted, in response to repeated calls for his resignation from the BJP, which is currently in power at the center.
The court further declared that Mr. Kejriwal could use bed linens from home due to his medical condition, which includes a weakened immune system that puts him at danger of possibly serious allergic responses.
A supply of necessary medications and medical supplies, such as blood sugar monitors, will also be given to him. Given that Mr. Kejriwal follows a certain diet, he will also receive home-cooked meals.
As per prison regulations, inmates housed at Tihar Jail are often served dal, sabzi, and five rotis, or rice, twice a day along with a cup of tea in the morning and evening.
Last but not least, Mr. Kejriwal will still don a religiously significant locket.
Arvind Kejriwal Prison Routine
Around 6:30 am, or sunrise, is when Mr. Kejriwal and the other inmates of Tihar Jail No 2 will start their days. Tea and a couple slices of bread will be served as breakfast to the prisoners.
Mr. Kejriwal will head to court (if a hearing is planned) or have a meeting with his legal team after taking a morning shower. We’ll eat lunch between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m.
After being confined to their cells until three o’clock in the afternoon, prisoners are given a cup of tea and two biscuits.
The inmates are given dinner at 5:30 p.m. and are then locked up for the night around 7 p.m.
Mr. Kejriwal is permitted to watch television, with the exception of times when lock-up and mealtimes are scheduled. There are eighteen to twenty channels available, encompassing sports, entertainment, and news.
Why Was Arvind Kejriwal Arrested?
Along with his jailed comrades, Mr. Kejriwal and other senior AAP leaders have refuted all allegations, citing a two-year probe that produced no cash recovery and accusing the BJP of a “political conspiracy” to undermine the opposition party ahead of an election.
